COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Public Policy requires completion of 96 credit points structured across Core studies, Professional practice studies, and Applied studies with specified electives, with an optional research pathway. Part A, Core studies (36 credit points), provides a strong foundation in public policy, including policy processes, policy analysis, implementation, evaluation, governance, and the broader political and institutional contexts that influence decision-making. This builds essential analytical and conceptual skills for understanding how public policy is developed and applied in real-world settings. Part B, Professional practice studies (12 credit points), focuses on developing practical, work-integrated skills such as policy communication, stakeholder engagement, and applied problem-solving in professional environments. Part C, Applied studies and specified elective studies (48 credit points), allows students to specialise through either Policy Studies or Global Studies. Policy Studies focuses on domestic and sector-specific policy areas, while Global Studies develops an international perspective on policy challenges, including global governance and cross-border issues. Students also have the option of a 24-credit-point Research pathway, which enables deeper engagement with academic research and may provide a pathway to PhD study. Overall, this 96-credit-point structure equips graduates with advanced analytical, practical, and international policy skills, preparing them for careers in government, international organisations, NGOs, and advisory roles where they can address complex policy challenges through evidence-based decision-making.
