COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Public Health (Research stream) requires completion of 96 credit points structured across Discipline studies, Foundation studies, Specialist core studies, and Specialist elective studies. Part A, Discipline studies (24 credit points), provides an introduction to key public health concepts, including population health, health systems, and the social, environmental, and structural determinants of health. This foundation helps students understand the broader context in which public health research is conducted. Part B, Foundation studies (24 credit points), develops essential methodological and analytical skills in epidemiology, biostatistics, and research methods, equipping students to design, collect, and analyse health data effectively. Part C, Specialist core studies (30 credit points), focuses on advanced research training, including the development of a real-world research project under academic supervision. Students apply theoretical and methodological knowledge to investigate complex public health issues and generate evidence to improve health practice and outcomes. Part D, Specialist elective studies (18 credit points), allows students to tailor their learning to areas of interest such as advanced epidemiology, global health, health policy, or health promotion. Overall, this 96-credit-point structure prepares graduates with strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills, enabling them to contribute to academic, policy, and applied public health settings and providing a pathway to further study, including PhD research opportunities.
