COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Public Health (Health Promotion stream) requires completion of 96 credit points structured across Discipline studies, Foundation studies, Specialist core studies, and Specialist elective studies. Part A, Discipline studies (24 credit points), introduces core public health concepts and provides a broad understanding of population health, health systems, and the social, environmental, and behavioural determinants of health. This foundation helps students understand how different factors influence health outcomes across communities. Part B, Foundation studies (24 credit points), builds essential analytical and methodological skills through training in epidemiology, biostatistics, and research methods, enabling students to interpret and evaluate public health data. Part C, Specialist core studies (30 credit points), focuses on health promotion theory and practice, including behaviour change strategies, health education, program planning, and evaluation. Students learn how to design, implement, and assess interventions that encourage healthy behaviours and create supportive environments for better health outcomes. Part D, Specialist elective studies (18 credit points), allows students to tailor their learning to specific interests such as community health, global health promotion, or advanced public health practice. Overall, this 96-credit-point structure prepares graduates for roles in government, non-government organisations, and the private sector, where they can design and deliver evidence-based health promotion programs that improve population health, reduce health inequities, and support long-term community well-being.
