COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Public Health (Health Policy stream) requires completion of 96 credit points structured across Discipline studies, Foundation studies, Specialist core studies, and Specialist elective studies. Part A, Discipline studies (24 credit points), introduces key public health concepts and provides a broad understanding of population health, health systems, and the social, political, and environmental determinants of health. This component builds essential contextual knowledge of how health systems function and how policy decisions influence health outcomes. Part B, Foundation studies (24 credit points), develops core analytical and methodological skills in epidemiology, biostatistics, and research methods, equipping students to interpret and evaluate health data effectively. Part C, Specialist core studies (30 credit points), focuses on health policy, health systems analysis, and health services management. Students learn how policies are developed, implemented, and evaluated, with an emphasis on improving access to care, quality of services, equity, and cost-effectiveness. This component also strengthens skills in leadership and evidence-based decision-making for health system improvement. Part D, Specialist elective studies (18 credit points), allows students to tailor their studies to areas of interest such as global health policy, health economics, or advanced public health practice. Overall, this 96-credit-point structure prepares graduates for roles in government, policy organisations, and health services, where they can analyse complex system challenges and contribute to the development of effective, equitable, and sustainable health policies.
