COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Public Health (Epidemiology specialisation) requires completion of 96 credit points structured across Discipline studies, Foundation studies, Specialist core studies, and Specialist elective studies. Part A, Discipline studies (24 credit points), introduces key public health concepts and provides a broad understanding of population health, health systems, and the social and environmental determinants of health. Part B, Foundation studies (24 credit points), builds essential skills in core areas such as epidemiology, biostatistics, and research methods, ensuring students develop the analytical and methodological grounding required for advanced public health practice. Part C, Specialist core studies (30 credit points), focuses on in-depth training in epidemiology, strengthening skills in study design, data collection, statistical analysis, and critical appraisal of research. This component also develops expertise in understanding the epidemiology of communicable and non-communicable diseases, enabling students to evaluate patterns of disease and design evidence-based interventions. Part D, Specialist elective studies (18 credit points), allows students to tailor their learning to specific interests within public health, such as advanced epidemiological methods, health policy, or global health issues. Overall, this 96-credit-point structure provides a balanced combination of foundational knowledge, advanced analytical training, and specialised expertise, preparing graduates to work in government health departments, research institutions, NGOs, and international health organisations, where they can apply epidemiological methods to improve population health outcomes and inform evidence-based public health decision-making.
