COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Materials Engineering requires completion of 144 credit points structured across Foundation specialist studies, Core specialist studies, Elective specialist studies, Research studies, and Professional practice. For students admitted at entry level 1, the program begins with Foundation materials engineering (48 credit points), which provides essential grounding in core engineering principles and prepares students for advanced study in materials science and engineering. This is followed by Materials engineering core studies (48 credit points), where students develop advanced knowledge of key areas such as polymeric materials, materials characterisation, energy technologies, environmental durability, biomaterials, biomechanics, additive manufacturing, and sustainable materials development. These studies build strong technical and analytical skills required for innovation in materials design and application. Materials engineering electives (24 credit points) allow students to tailor their studies to specific interests and career goals, enabling deeper exploration of specialised topics within the discipline. Research studies (18 credit points) develop advanced analytical and investigative skills through ENG5001 Advanced Data Analytics for Engineers, ENG5005 Research Methods, and ENG5006 Research Practice, equipping students with the ability to conduct structured research and apply data-driven solutions. The Professional practice component (6 credit points) focuses on industry readiness and lifelong learning through ENG5100 Professional Engineer in Organisation and Society and ENG0003 Professional Engineering Continuous Professional Development. Overall, the program integrates technical expertise, research capability, and professional skills to prepare graduates for advanced roles in materials engineering and innovation-driven industries.
