COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Civil Engineering requires completion of 144 credit points, structured across five key components: Foundation specialist studies, Core specialist studies, Elective specialist studies, Research studies, and Professional practice. Part A, Foundation specialist studies (48 credit points), builds essential engineering knowledge and provides a strong base in fundamental civil engineering principles. Part B, Core specialist studies (48 credit points), develops advanced expertise in civil engineering, focusing on key areas such as structural design, geotechnics, construction materials, transport systems, water engineering, and computational methods. This component ensures students gain the technical depth required for professional engineering practice. Part C, Civil engineering electives (24 credit points), allows students to tailor their learning by selecting specialised topics aligned with their interests and career goals, such as structural, transport, or water engineering streams. Part D, Research studies (18 credit points), develops advanced research and analytical skills through ENG5001 Advanced Data Analytics for Engineers, ENG5005 Research Methods, and ENG5006 Research Practice, enabling students to apply evidence-based approaches to engineering problems. Part E, Professional practice (6 credit points), focuses on professional development and industry readiness through ENG5100 Professional Engineer in Organisation and Society and ENG0003 Professional Engineering Continuous Professional Development. Overall, the program integrates technical knowledge, research capability, and professional skills to prepare graduates for leadership roles in civil engineering and infrastructure development.
