COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Materials Engineering requires completion of 96 credit points for students admitted at entry level 2, structured across Core specialist studies, Elective specialist studies, Research studies, and Professional practice. The Core specialist studies (48 credit points) develop advanced knowledge in materials engineering, including areas such as polymeric materials, materials characterisation, energy technologies, environmental durability, biomaterials, biomechanics, additive manufacturing, and sustainable materials development. This component builds strong technical expertise and analytical capability essential for modern materials engineering practice. Materials engineering electives (24 credit points) allow students to tailor their studies according to their interests and career goals, enabling deeper engagement with specialised topics in the discipline. Research studies (18 credit points) focus on developing advanced research and analytical skills through three core units: ENG5001 Advanced Data Analytics for Engineers, ENG5005 Research Methods, and ENG5006 Research Practice. These units equip students with the ability to conduct structured research, interpret data, and apply evidence-based solutions to engineering problems. The Professional practice component (6 credit points) supports industry readiness and professional development through ENG5100 Professional Engineer in Organisation and Society, along with ENG0003 Professional Engineering Continuous Professional Development, which promotes ongoing learning and career growth. Overall, this structure integrates technical knowledge, research capability, and professional skills, preparing graduates for advanced careers in materials engineering and innovation-focused industries.
