COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Professional Accounting at Monash University is structured to provide both foundational knowledge and the opportunity to specialise through elective studies. The course is divided into two main parts: Part A, Core studies, and Part B, Elective studies. Part A equips students with essential business and accounting knowledge, covering subjects such as accounting principles, law, economics, and statistics. These core units are designed to develop the analytical, technical, and critical thinking skills required to operate effectively as a professional accountant. Students learn to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world accounting problems, preparing them to provide discipline-based solutions in professional settings.Part B focuses on elective studies, which allow students to pursue areas of professional or scholarly interest that complement the core knowledge gained. These units support the development of a professional portfolio and further enhance the skills necessary for effective accounting practice. Electives provide opportunities to specialise in fields such as corporate finance, auditing, taxation, or forensic accounting, enabling students to tailor their learning to career ambitions and emerging industry demands.The program accommodates multiple entry points depending on prior qualifications. Students admitted at entry level 1 are required to complete 96 credit points, covering both core and elective units, while those admitted at entry level 2 complete 72 credit points, focusing primarily on the core studies. Students who are eligible for credit for prior studies may choose not to receive the credit and complete the full higher credit-point option, allowing flexibility in structuring their pathway through the program. This design ensures that graduates leave the Master of Professional Accounting with both the foundational expertise and specialised knowledge needed to pursue professional accreditation and thrive in diverse accounting roles across industries.
