COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Interpreting and Translation Studies requires completion of 96 credit points and offers two specialisation pathways at the Clayton campus: the Translation specialisation and the Interpreting and Translation specialisation. Both streams are designed to develop advanced linguistic, analytical, and professional communication skills, preparing students for careers in multilingual and multicultural environments. The Translation specialisation focuses on developing expertise in written translation across a range of domains, equipping students with the ability to accurately and effectively translate texts in areas such as technical, legal, literary, and commercial contexts. It emphasises linguistic precision, cultural understanding, and the application of professional translation tools and industry standards. The Interpreting and Translation specialisation provides a broader skill set that combines both interpreting and translation practice. It trains students in oral interpreting techniques such as consecutive and simultaneous interpreting, as well as written translation, preparing them for diverse professional settings including conferences, courts, community services, and business environments. Both specialisations include practical training components and opportunities for professional experience, ensuring graduates are work-ready. Students also develop strong research and analytical capabilities, enabling them to critically engage with language use and communication across cultures.
