COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of International Relations and Master of Journalism double degree requires completion of 96 credit points, divided equally between two components: a 48-credit-point Master of International Relations and a 48-credit-point Master of Journalism. The Master of International Relations component provides a comprehensive understanding of global politics, international systems, and the key forces shaping world affairs. It focuses on areas such as international security, global justice, diplomacy, foreign policy, and political economy, enabling students to analyse complex global issues using both theoretical frameworks and empirical approaches. Students also have the opportunity to specialise further through elective areas such as global business and management, global justice and development, and global security. The Master of Journalism component offers professional training in media practice, equipping students with the skills needed for modern journalism across multiple platforms. It emphasises investigative reporting, public interest journalism, ethical practice, and effective communication using contemporary media technologies. Together, these two components create an integrated program that combines rigorous academic study of international relations with practical journalism skills. Students develop strong analytical, research, writing, and communication abilities, enabling them to interpret global events and communicate them clearly to diverse audiences. The program also highlights the importance of journalism in democratic societies, focusing on accountability, truth-seeking, and constructive reporting. Overall, the 96-credit-point structure prepares graduates for careers in media, international organisations, policy, and communication, with the ability to analyse and report on global issues effectively.
