COURSE CURRICULUM
The Master of International Relations is structured into four main components, providing a comprehensive pathway from foundational knowledge to applied skills and professional development. Part A, Core Studies, encompasses 36 credit points and focuses on best practices in international relations research and practice, exploring theoretical, analytical, economic, and security dimensions of global politics. Part B, Applied Studies, totaling 12 credit points, addresses key global issues such as diplomacy, political economy, gender, peace and security, migration, political violence, and counter-terrorism, while also enabling students to undertake professional or scholarly work that contributes to a portfolio of practical experience. Part C, Professional Practice Studies, also 12 credit points, is designed in collaboration with industry experts, allowing students to build essential career competencies through targeted professional enhancement offerings. Part D, Elective Studies, comprises 36 credit points and provides students the flexibility to deepen their knowledge in specialist areas or explore broader topics in world politics. A research pathway of 24 credit points is available for students seeking eligibility to pursue graduate research studies, offering a route into higher degree research. Entry into the program depends on prior qualifications, with entry level one requiring completion of all four parts for 96 credit points, entry level two requiring 72 credit points with reduced professional practice and elective requirements, and entry level three requiring 48 credit points covering core and applied studies. Students eligible for block credit may opt to complete the full program instead, and intensive progression maps are available for the 1.5-year entry point, enabling completion over 12 months. Overall, this flexible structure combines rigorous academic theory with applied professional experience and elective specialisation, equipping graduates with the knowledge, analytical skills, and professional competencies to navigate complex international environments and pursue careers in government, international organisations, policy research, diplomacy, and related fields.
