COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of International Development Practice is structured into four key parts, providing a comprehensive pathway from foundational knowledge to applied skills and professional development. Part A, Core Studies, immerses students in international development theory and practice, exploring topics such as inequality, evolving aid frameworks, and the influence of politics, economics, culture, history and natural resources on human development. Part B, Applied Studies, focuses on professional or scholarly projects that contribute to a portfolio of practical experience. Part C, Professional Practice Studies, allows students to develop essential career competencies through offerings designed in collaboration with industry experts. Part D, Elective Studies, enables students to enhance specialised knowledge and skills by selecting from a range of options relevant to international development practice and allied fields. Students may also choose a research pathway, which involves 24 credit points of research and can provide a route to higher degrees by research. Entry into the program varies based on prior qualifications, with entry level one requiring 96 credit points across all four parts, entry level two requiring 72 credit points with reduced requirements in professional practice and electives, and entry level three requiring 48 credit points covering core and applied studies. A course progression map guides semester enrolment, and intensive pathways are available for eligible students to complete the program in 12 months. Overall, the degree provides 96 credit points, with 36 credit points in Core Studies, 12 in Applied Studies, 12 in Professional Practice, 36 in Electives, and an optional 24-credit-point research component.
