COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Educational Leadership is designed to develop the knowledge, skills, and critical capacities necessary for current and aspiring leaders in education. The course is structured into three integrated parts: Orientation, Expert Studies in Educational Leadership, and Professional Inquiry, each providing a progressive framework for understanding and applying leadership principles within educational contexts. Part A, Orientation, introduces students to contemporary issues in education and postgraduate-level academic practices. It is tailored for those without prior qualifications or experience in education, providing opportunities to engage with a broad range of debates, explore scholarly traditions, and develop an understanding of the complexities inherent in educational systems. Part B, Expert Studies in Educational Leadership, deepens students’ understanding of leadership constructs, including traditional and emergent theories, cultural variations, and the role of social justice in shaping educational environments. Students examine how leadership interacts with policy, politics, and power, while selecting units aligned with their personal interests. This component emphasizes critical, creative, and innovative thinking and allows engagement with cutting-edge research and projects that consolidate applied leadership skills. Part C, Professional Inquiry, focuses on advanced research or extended leadership studies, encouraging students to critically examine leadership practice and policy while applying evidence-based approaches to contemporary challenges. Depending on prior qualifications, students may enter the program with block credit, affecting the total number of credit points required to complete the course. The program also offers an optional pathway to graduate research, providing further opportunities to pursue independent, scholarly inquiry. By integrating theoretical knowledge, practical application, and research engagement, the Master of Educational Leadership equips graduates to navigate complex educational landscapes, make informed strategic decisions, and inspire positive change in diverse learning environments, positioning them as reflective, future-focused leaders in education.
