COURSE CURRICULUM
The Master of Economics is organised into four key parts designed to progressively build your expertise and prepare you for advanced professional or research roles. Part A, the advanced preparatory studies, introduces core foundations in economics at an advanced undergraduate and graduate level, especially for students whose prior study was not in a related field. This stage ensures that all students begin with a strong grounding in economic principles and quantitative methods. Part B, the core studies, develops your ability to apply economic theory and analytical techniques to real-world problems. Through applied microeconomics, macroeconomics and advanced analytical training, you will gain the skills needed to interpret complex economic data, understand policy environments and evaluate the impact of economic decisions across sectors. Building on this foundation, Part C focuses on discipline studies that enhance your capacity to think critically and creatively within specialised areas of economics. This component allows you to apply theoretical knowledge to discipline-specific challenges and develop targeted expertise that supports professional advancement in fields such as policy analysis, development economics, competition regulation or financial markets. Part D, the elective studies, offers flexibility to broaden or deepen your knowledge through units drawn from economics or other areas across the university. You may also select electives that support a future research pathway into a Doctor of Philosophy. Entry into the course varies depending on previous qualifications, with different credit requirements assigned to three entry levels. For students seeking a research pathway, eligibility is determined by academic performance and full-time study requirements. Throughout the program, the course progression map provides clear guidance to support enrolment planning. Altogether, the structure of the Master of Economics ensures a balanced combination of foundational knowledge, advanced analytical capability and opportunities for specialisation, enabling graduates to succeed in diverse and dynamic economic environments.
