COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Counselling requires the completion of 96 credit points and is structured to provide a balanced integration of foundational knowledge, core counselling theory and applied professional practice. The program is divided into three key components to support progressive skill development and professional readiness. Part A, Foundation Studies (24 credit points), introduces students to essential concepts in psychology, counselling principles, human development and ethical practice, providing the theoretical groundwork necessary for advanced study. Part B, Core Studies (48 credit points), builds on this foundation by developing in-depth knowledge and practical understanding of counselling theories, evidence-based therapeutic approaches, mental health assessment, intervention strategies and working with diverse populations, including individuals, couples, families and groups. This component forms the academic and professional core of the program, equipping students with the skills required for effective counselling practice. Part C, Applied Studies (24 credit points), focuses on the practical application of counselling knowledge through supervised professional practice and experiential learning. Students engage in real or simulated counselling environments where they develop clinical skills, reflect on practice and integrate theory with applied experience. This structure ensures a strong progression from foundational learning to advanced practice, enabling students to develop competence, confidence and professional identity as counsellors. Upon completion of the 96 credit points, graduates are prepared to work in a range of settings including mental health services, community organisations, education, family services and private practice, supporting individuals and communities through evidence-based counselling interventions.
