COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Commerce requires the completion of 96 credit points and is structured to provide advanced research training for students preparing for doctoral studies in economics. The program is organised into a selected specialisation, with each specialisation divided into two equal components: Part A, Core Research Studies (48 credit points), and Part B, Advanced Research Studies (48 credit points). For the Economics specialisation (ECONOMPG01), students complete a total of 96 credit points designed to build strong theoretical, analytical and research capabilities in the discipline of economics. The Core Research Studies component provides a solid foundation in key areas such as microeconomics, macroeconomics, economic theory, quantitative methods and contemporary research approaches. This stage focuses on developing students’ ability to critically analyse economic literature and understand the theoretical frameworks used to study economic systems and policy issues. The Advanced Research Studies component builds on this foundation by engaging students in independent and rigorous research work, where they design, implement and communicate original research projects under academic supervision. This allows students to apply advanced economic theories and empirical methods to real-world problems and contribute new insights to the field. Throughout the program, students work closely with experienced academics, engage in a research-focused learning environment and refine their individual research interests. The integrated structure ensures graduates gain both deep theoretical understanding and practical research experience, preparing them for successful progression into PhD studies and future careers in academia, economic policy, government, international organisations and research institutions.
