COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Commerce requires the completion of 96 credit points and is structured to provide advanced research training for students preparing for doctoral studies. The program is organised around a selected specialisation, each divided into two equal components: Part A, Core Research Studies (48 credit points), and Part B, Advanced Research Studies (48 credit points). For the Econometrics and Business Statistics specialisation (ECMTBSPG01), students complete a total of 96 credit points designed to develop strong theoretical, analytical and quantitative research capabilities. The Core Research Studies component introduces students to fundamental concepts in econometrics and business statistics, including statistical theory, econometric modelling, data analysis, probability, and contemporary research methodologies. This stage focuses on building a solid foundation in quantitative reasoning and critical evaluation of empirical research in economics and business. The Advanced Research Studies component builds on this foundation by engaging students in independent, rigorous research work where they apply advanced econometric and statistical techniques to real-world economic and business problems. Students design, implement and communicate original research projects under academic supervision, developing high-level analytical and problem-solving skills. Throughout the program, students work closely with experienced academics and participate in a research-focused academic environment, refining their research interests and doctoral aspirations. The integrated structure ensures graduates acquire both strong theoretical knowledge and practical research experience, preparing them for successful progression into PhD studies and careers in academia, data science, economic policy, finance and advanced quantitative research roles.
