COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Commerce requires the completion of 96 credit points and is structured to provide advanced research training for students preparing for doctoral studies. The course is organised into a selected specialisation, each of which is divided into two equal components: Part A, Core Research Studies (48 credit points), and Part B, Advanced Research Studies (48 credit points). For the Banking and Finance specialisation (BNKFINPG02), students complete a total of 96 credit points designed to build strong theoretical, analytical and research capabilities in the discipline. The Core Research Studies component provides a foundation in key areas of banking and finance, including financial theory, banking systems, financial markets, investment principles and contemporary research methods. This stage focuses on developing critical thinking skills and a deep understanding of current academic literature, enabling students to evaluate complex financial issues from a research perspective. The Advanced Research Studies component builds on this foundation by engaging students in independent and rigorous research activities, where they design, implement and communicate original research projects under academic supervision. This allows students to apply advanced methodologies and contribute new insights to the field of banking and finance. Throughout the program, students work closely with experienced academics and engage with ongoing scholarly discussions, refining their research interests and developing expertise. The integrated structure ensures graduates gain both theoretical knowledge and practical research experience, preparing them for successful progression into PhD studies and future careers in academia, financial research, policy development and industry analysis.
