COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Commerce requires the successful completion of 96 credit points and is designed to provide advanced research training for students preparing to undertake doctoral studies. The course is structured around a chosen specialisation and combines foundational and advanced research development to build the knowledge and skills required for high-quality academic research. For the Accounting specialisation (ACCNTGPG01), students complete a total of 96 credit points divided into two equal components: Part A, Core Research Studies (48 credit points), and Part B, Advanced Research Studies (48 credit points). The Core Research Studies component develops a strong foundation in accounting theory, contemporary research methodologies, academic literature and research design, enabling students to understand and critically evaluate current developments within the discipline. The Advanced Research Studies component focuses on applying these skills through independent and rigorous research activities, allowing students to design, conduct and communicate research that contributes to accounting knowledge and practice. Throughout the program, students work closely with academic supervisors and engage with the broader research community, refining their research interests and developing expertise in their chosen area. The integrated structure ensures that graduates gain both theoretical depth and practical research experience, preparing them for successful progression into a PhD program. By completing the 96-credit-point Accounting specialisation, students develop the analytical, methodological and scholarly capabilities required for advanced research careers in academia, industry, government and professional accounting environments.
