COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Biotechnology is structured in two major components designed to build both foundational knowledge and advanced practical capability. Part A, the core studies component, introduces key theoretical concepts in biotechnology and develops a strong understanding of the methods, designs and ethical considerations involved in medical research. It also examines the opportunities and challenges related to commercialising biotechnological innovations, ensuring students understand how scientific discoveries transition into real-world applications. Part B, the applied studies component, focuses on advanced biotechnology practice, allowing students to apply and consolidate their skills through either a research project or an industry placement program. Eligibility for these options requires achieving at least 70 percent in the core biotechnology units; otherwise, students must complete 48 credit points of electives. Entry to the course varies depending on prior qualifications. Students entering at level 1 complete the full 96 credit points across Part A and Part B, while those admitted at level 2 undertake 48 credit points of Part A only, with no research project or industry placement. Students at Southeast University Suzhou complete 72 credit points, including 48 from Part A and 24 credit points undertaken within the partner degree, recorded as block credit. Course progression maps are provided for each study location, including Clayton, Malaysia and Suzhou, to help guide students through their semester-by-semester enrolment. Together, these elements form a comprehensive degree designed to equip graduates with both scientific depth and practical experience, supporting pathways into research, industry or further advanced study.
