COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Biomedical and Health Science is organised into three interconnected parts that guide students from foundational research training to advanced disciplinary study and finally to independent research and professional preparation. Part A, Research Foundation Studies, provides intensive training in locating, evaluating and conducting scientific research. Students develop theoretical knowledge of research design and methodology alongside practical skills in data analysis, scientific writing and verbal communication, forming a strong basis for future research work. Part B, Discipline Studies, enables students to deepen their understanding of key areas within biomedical and health sciences, including biotechnology. This component is particularly beneficial for students entering from non-cognate fields, for those interested in cross-disciplinary research, or for students who have not yet committed to a specific discipline for their eventual research project. Progression to Part C requires an average of at least 65 percent across Parts A and B, and students who do not meet this requirement may exit with a Graduate Diploma in Biomedical and Health Science. Part C, Research Project and Professional Practice, is the capstone stage and consists of three modules that integrate academic research with professional development. In the first module, students complete a substantial research project under academic supervision, beginning with a literature review and contributing to project planning before conducting the research and submitting a thesis. The second module delivers targeted employability training, equipping students with practical skills needed for roles in the biomedical and biotechnology sectors. The third module involves an internship in a research or industry setting, providing valuable workplace exposure and helping students develop professional competencies. Entry points vary based on previous qualifications, with some students eligible to begin directly in Part C, although they must secure a supervisor and project prior to commencement.
