COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Applied Behaviour Analysis at Monash University requires the completion of 96 credit points and is structured to develop advanced knowledge and practical skills in the science and application of behaviour analysis. Part A, Foundation Studies (24 credit points), introduces students to the fundamental principles of behaviour science, including learning theory, behavioural assessment, ethics, and the scientific basis of behaviour change. This stage builds a strong conceptual grounding required for advanced professional practice. Part B, Core Studies (48 credit points), forms the central component of the course and focuses on the theory and application of applied behaviour analysis. Students develop expertise in behavioural assessment, intervention design, data collection and analysis, skill acquisition strategies, and behaviour reduction techniques. This component also explores professional practice standards, ethical considerations, and contemporary debates in behaviour analysis, ensuring students are prepared for evidence-based decision-making in real-world settings. Part C, Applied Studies (24 credit points), provides practical experience where students apply behavioural analysis principles in supervised contexts such as schools, clinics, and community-based environments. This hands-on component strengthens the ability to translate theory into practice and work effectively with individuals with diverse learning and behavioural needs. Together, these components prepare graduates for professional roles in behaviour analysis, education support, disability services, and early intervention, as well as further academic study. The program equips students to improve learning outcomes, independence, and quality of life through scientifically validated behavioural interventions across a range of applied settings.
