COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Advanced Nursing at Monash University requires the completion of 96 credit points and is structured to develop advanced clinical expertise, leadership capability, and evidence-based practice in nursing and midwifery. Part A, Specialist Studies (24 credit points), focuses on developing advanced knowledge in key areas of nursing practice such as leadership, clinical decision-making, healthcare management, education, palliative and end-of-life care, trauma nursing, disaster response, and advanced midwifery. This component strengthens students’ ability to apply specialist knowledge in complex healthcare environments and improve patient outcomes across diverse populations. Part B, Advanced Scholarly Practice (72 credit points), forms the major component of the course and is designed to deepen students’ professional and academic capabilities through advanced coursework and applied learning. This includes developing skills in research interpretation, evidence-based practice, policy analysis, and critical evaluation of healthcare systems. Students learn to integrate theory with clinical practice to improve healthcare delivery, enhance patient safety, and support innovation in nursing practice. The advanced scholarly focus also prepares graduates to contribute to healthcare research, policy development, and professional education. Through this structured combination of specialist study and scholarly practice, the program equips nurses and midwives with the expertise needed for senior roles in clinical leadership, education, healthcare management, and specialist practice. Graduates are well prepared to work in hospitals, community health services, aged care, and international healthcare settings, where they can lead improvements in care quality and contribute to the development of the nursing and midwifery profession.
