COURSE CURRICULUM
The Master of Advanced Engineering (Power Systems Engineering) at Monash University requires the completion of 96 credit points and is structured to provide advanced technical expertise in electrical power systems together with practical or research-based experience. Part A, Core Studies (24 credit points), develops advanced engineering knowledge, professional practice skills, leadership capabilities, innovation, and problem-solving techniques that support effective engineering decision-making in complex environments. Part B, Specialist Studies in Power Systems Engineering (36 credit points), focuses on the design, operation, analysis, and management of modern electrical power systems. Students gain expertise in power flow analysis, grid stability, renewable energy integration, smart grid technologies, microgrids, distributed generation, advanced control systems, and energy-efficient electricity networks. This component prepares graduates to address the challenges associated with transitioning to sustainable and renewable energy systems. Part C, Advanced Practice (24 credit points), requires students to complete either an Industry Experience pathway or a Master’s Thesis Research pathway. The Industry Experience option provides practical exposure through professional engineering projects and workplace learning, while the Research Thesis option enables students to undertake independent research under academic supervision and develop advanced analytical and investigative skills. Part D, Specified Elective Studies (12 credit points), allows students to broaden their expertise in complementary areas aligned with their professional interests.
