COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Advanced Engineering (Telecommunications Engineering) at Monash University requires the completion of 96 credit points and is structured to provide advanced technical expertise in communication systems along with practical or research experience. Part A, Core Studies (24 credit points), develops foundational capabilities in advanced engineering practice, problem-solving, innovation, leadership, and professional communication, which are essential for complex engineering environments. Part B, Specialist Studies in Telecommunications Engineering (36 credit points), focuses on the principles and technologies behind modern communication systems, including signal processing, electromagnetics, optical communication, wireless networks, and system design. Students gain an in-depth understanding of how information flows through networks such as the internet and next-generation wireless systems, and how these systems are designed for speed, reliability, and efficiency. Part C, Advanced Practice (24 credit points), requires students to complete either an Industry Experience pathway or a Master’s Thesis Research pathway. The Industry Experience option provides practical exposure through real-world engineering projects and professional engagement, while the Research Thesis option allows students to undertake independent research under academic supervision and develop advanced analytical and technical skills. Part D, Specified Elective Studies (12 credit points), offers flexibility to broaden knowledge in related areas aligned with career goals. Together, these components prepare graduates for careers in telecommunications engineering, network design, wireless communication systems, optical and signal processing industries, and research and development roles, enabling them to contribute to the advancement of global communication infrastructure and next-generation connectivity technologies.
