COURSE CURRICULUM

The Doctor of Podiatric Medicine requires completion of 144 credit points through a structured program of core studies designed to develop advanced clinical knowledge, practical skills, and professional competencies for entry-level podiatric practice. The curriculum begins with AHC5000 Foundations of Health Professional Practice, which introduces essential concepts in healthcare delivery and professional practice. Students then build core clinical knowledge through units such as POD5101 Dermatology and Diseases of the Lower Limb, POD5102 Neurological Podiatry, and POD5103 Musculoskeletal Podiatry, which develop understanding of key conditions affecting foot and lower limb health. Communication skills are developed through AHC5001 Communication in Health and Disability, while POD5202 Podiatry and Medicines provides knowledge of pharmacology relevant to podiatric practice. Research capability is strengthened through POD5203 Applied Research in Podiatry, a year-long unit that develops evidence-based practice skills. Clinical competence is progressively built through a series of supervised clinical practice units, including POD5210 to POD5370, which provide hands-on experience in diverse healthcare settings. Advanced knowledge and integration of learning occur in POD5301 Advanced Podiatry Practice. Additionally, students develop leadership and management skills through PTY5303 Business and Management in Health Systems and PTY5305 Leadership, Education and Advocacy. Together, these units provide a comprehensive, integrated education that combines theory, clinical training, research, and professional development, preparing graduates for competent, safe, and effective podiatric practice across a wide range of healthcare environments.
