COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Computer Science double degree at Monash University requires the completion of 192 credit points, consisting of 96 credit points in the Science component and 96 credit points in the Computer Science component. The Science component provides students with a strong foundation in scientific knowledge and methodology across disciplines such as biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, environmental science, and related fields. Students develop essential skills in critical thinking, data analysis, experimental design, and quantitative reasoning, which support scientific investigation and problem-solving across a wide range of contexts. This component may also allow students to focus on specific scientific disciplines depending on their interests and career goals. The Computer Science component develops technical and computational skills, including programming, algorithms, software development, data structures, and systems thinking. Students may also gain exposure to advanced areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, or data science depending on unit selection. Together, these two components create a highly interdisciplinary qualification that combines scientific understanding with advanced computing capability. This enables students to apply computational tools to scientific problems, analyse large datasets, and develop technological solutions for real-world challenges. By completing all 192 credit points, graduates are well prepared for careers in fields such as data science, bioinformatics, artificial intelligence, software engineering, scientific research, environmental modelling, and technology-driven industries, as well as for further postgraduate study in science or computing disciplines.
