COURSE CURRICULUM
The Bachelor of Radiography and Medical Imaging (Honours) is a 192-credit-point program designed to develop the scientific knowledge, technical expertise and professional competencies required for careers as registered radiographers and medical imaging practitioners. The course is structured into three integrated parts: discipline studies, applied studies, and professional practice and research, with an additional 24-credit-point option for a research project or extended study. Part A, discipline studies, provides the foundational knowledge of human biology, anatomy and physiology, focusing on the radiographic appearances of structures in health and disease across planar and sectional imaging. Students also study the principles of medical radiation physics and instrumentation for modalities such as general radiography, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), medical ultrasound and digital vascular imaging, alongside radiation protection, MRI safety and relevant statutory requirements. Part B, applied studies, develops clinical competence through extensive hands-on practice, covering radiographic positioning, imaging protocols for different body regions, fluoroscopy, theatre and mobile radiography, paediatrics, digital image processing, and image interpretation. Students gain practical experience in CT, basic MRI methods, vascular imaging and general abdominal ultrasound, while advancing clinical decision-making and patient management skills. Part C, professional practice and research, focuses on evidence-based practice, preparing students to exercise professional judgment, reflect on advanced radiographic practice, identify ongoing professional development needs, and apply research findings to healthcare. Students learn to differentiate research methods, critically evaluate scientific evidence, understand current trends in medical imaging research and apply this knowledge to improve clinical practice. The course is supported by a structured progression map guiding unit enrolment across semesters, ensuring a coherent sequence of study that balances theoretical knowledge, applied clinical training and research engagement, ultimately preparing graduates for competent, professional practice in medical imaging and radiography across diverse clinical settings.
