COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours) is structured as a 192-credit-point program consisting entirely of prescribed physiotherapy study and built around five interconnected themes that collectively underpin contemporary physiotherapy practice. The theme of personal and professional development focuses on preparing students for the transition into professional practice by building essential communication skills, ethical understanding, legal awareness and a strong appreciation of the roles and responsibilities within the physiotherapy profession. Population, society and health introduces students to the broader societal and population-level factors influencing health, using an internationally recognised socio-ecological model to frame how social, cultural and environmental determinants shape physiotherapy practice. Fundamental knowledge for the health sciences provides the biomedical, behavioural and theoretical foundations required for clinical competence, covering essential sciences and core principles of physiotherapy theory. Applied practice develops the clinical skills necessary for assessment, treatment, management and evaluation across the lifespan, emphasising the integration of research evidence with clinical reasoning to deliver safe and effective care in varied patient environments. The research theme equips students with the ability to locate, interpret and critically evaluate scientific literature relevant to physiotherapy, enabling evidence-based decision making throughout their careers. These themes are embedded across all units in the program, which include a sequenced progression from Physiotherapy 1 through Physiotherapy 8C, along with specialised units in business and management in physiotherapy and extensive clinical placements. Students undertake multiple clinical units, including Physiotherapy 6A and 6B, Physiotherapy 7A and 7B, and Physiotherapy 8A, 8B and 8C, gaining increasing levels of independence and competence in real healthcare settings.
