COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Paramedicine is designed to prepare graduates for contemporary paramedic practice through a curriculum aligned with the Australian Qualifications Framework and Monash Graduate Attributes, ensuring students develop the knowledge, skills and professional behaviours required for competent practice. Upon completion of the course, graduates will be able to apply paramedic knowledge and skills in diverse clinical contexts, demonstrate ethical, non-discriminatory and professional conduct, promote health and wellbeing, and deliver patient-focused care using a systematic and competent clinical approach. They will also be equipped to communicate effectively with patients, communities and other healthcare professionals, use critical thinking, reasoning and decision-making to solve clinical problems, and adapt their practice through reflective processes. In addition, students will develop the ability to critically appraise and apply the best available evidence, recognise the significance of population health issues, and display cultural competence and social awareness across all aspects of paramedic practice. The program is accredited by the Paramedicine Board of Australia, enabling graduates to apply for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency through the Paramedicine Board of Australia. Structurally, the course comprises 144 credit points divided into 36 points of foundation studies and 108 points of core studies, taught through five interwoven themes that underpin the development of professional capability. These themes include clinical competency, which links theoretical learning with essential technical and non-technical skills; patient-focused care, which aligns theory and practice within real patient contexts; evidence-based practice, which emphasises the integration of empirical evidence into clinical decision making; reflective practice, which encourages continuous improvement through reflection on experience; and professionalism, which embeds best-practice professional standards throughout clinical education.
