COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Nursing and Bachelor of Midwifery (Honours) double degree requires the completion of 192 credit points, structured across three key components that integrate academic learning with clinical practice. Part A, Professional Development Studies (48 credit points), focuses on building foundational knowledge, communication skills, ethical understanding, and professional behaviours essential for healthcare practice. This component supports students in developing critical thinking, research literacy, and reflective practice to prepare for complex healthcare environments. Part B, Clinical Skills and Practice (84 credit points), provides extensive hands-on training in real healthcare settings. Students develop essential nursing and midwifery skills through supervised clinical placements in hospitals, community health services, and maternity care settings across metropolitan, rural, and regional locations. This practical experience allows students to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world patient care, strengthening clinical reasoning, decision-making, and patient safety skills. Part C, Advanced Midwifery Studies (60 credit points), builds specialised expertise in maternity and newborn care, including antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care, as well as the management of complications and obstetric emergencies. This component ensures students gain advanced knowledge and competency in midwifery practice. The combination of 48, 84, and 60 credit points creates a comprehensive and integrated qualification that prepares graduates for dual registration as registered nurses and midwives.
