COURSE CURRICULUM
The Bachelor of International Relations is structured into three key parts that guide your academic progression and ensure a well-rounded understanding of global political dynamics. Part A focuses on foundational knowledge, where you will be introduced to the core concepts and theoretical frameworks central to international relations. These foundations will help you understand the structure of the international system, the distribution of power among states and other actors, and how political decisions at various levels can lead to cooperation or conflict. This part equips you with analytical tools to critically examine contemporary global issues, from diplomacy and war to transnational governance. In Part B, you will gain specialist knowledge by delving into specific areas within the field. You will have the opportunity to explore themes such as peace, conflict, and security, where you will examine causes of war and conflict resolution strategies; policy and governance, which focuses on the institutions and rules shaping international decision-making; comparative politics, analysing how political systems differ across countries; development, rights, and gender, which looks at global inequalities and the fight for human rights; and climate futures, addressing the political dimensions of environmental challenges. These specialisations allow you to tailor your studies to your interests and career goals, developing both depth and focus within international relations.Part C offers the flexibility to expand your learning through free electives. You can use these units to deepen your expertise in international relations or broaden your academic experience by taking units from other faculties across the university. This flexibility supports interdisciplinary learning and may open pathways to double majors or minors in complementary areas such as languages, law, economics, or history. Together, these three parts provide a comprehensive and customisable education in international relations, preparing you for diverse roles in global affairs.
