COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Global Studies at Monash University is structured to provide students with both a broad understanding of global issues and the opportunity to specialise in key areas of interest. The course is divided into three main components: global studies core, specialist knowledge, and free elective study.Part A, the global studies core, forms the foundation of the degree. In these units, students explore a range of global challenges such as inequality, climate change, conflict, and migration. They critically examine how different societies across history, geography, language, and culture have approached these issues. A key focus is developing the skills required for effective leadership, collaboration, and communication in cross-cultural and international settings. These core studies ensure students understand the complexities of global interactions and how to navigate them thoughtfully and ethically.Part B, global studies specialist knowledge, allows students to delve deeper into specific facets of global studies. Drawing from various disciplines within the humanities and social sciences, these units provide the theoretical frameworks and practical skills needed to analyse global phenomena. Whether exploring international relations, development studies, sustainability, or global health, students are trained to think critically, communicate effectively, and develop creative solutions to real-world problems. This part of the course encourages students to build expertise in areas they are passionate about, supporting both academic growth and future career pathways.Part C consists of free elective study, giving students the flexibility to tailor their degree to their individual interests and career goals. Electives can be used to extend learning in global studies, explore other areas within the Faculty of Arts, or take units from across the wider university. This component promotes interdisciplinary learning and allows for a highly personalised academic experience. Overall, the course equips graduates to become globally engaged professionals with the ability to think across cultures and disciplines.
