COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Software Engineering (Honours) requires the completion of 192 credit points and provides a comprehensive education in software development, engineering design, and large-scale software systems. Part A consists of 30 credit points of Engineering fundamentals and design studies, where students develop essential knowledge in mathematics, programming, computer systems, engineering principles, and design methodologies. These foundational studies build analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills that support advanced software engineering practice. Part B includes 18 credit points of Breadth studies, allowing students to broaden their education through subjects outside their engineering specialisation, enhancing their understanding of business, communication, innovation, and societal contexts. Parts C, D, and E together comprise 144 credit points of Specialist studies, which form the core of the degree. These units focus on advanced software engineering topics such as software architecture, software design, programming, databases, cybersecurity, systems development, quality assurance, artificial intelligence, project management, and software testing. Students gain practical experience through collaborative projects, studio-based learning, industry-focused assignments, and research activities. The program develops technical expertise alongside professional skills including teamwork, leadership, communication, and project management. Throughout the course, students learn to design, build, evaluate, and maintain complex software systems while addressing real-world challenges involving cost, reliability, security, and performance. Upon completing all 192 credit points, graduates are well prepared for careers in software development, systems engineering, cybersecurity, technology consulting, artificial intelligence, and other rapidly growing sectors of the global digital economy.
