COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (Honours) requires the completion of 192 credit points and is designed to provide students with comprehensive knowledge of engineering principles, design processes, and advanced mechanical engineering applications. Part A consists of 30 credit points of Engineering fundamentals and design studies, where students build a strong foundation in mathematics, physics, engineering mechanics, materials science, programming, and design methodologies. These studies develop the analytical and technical skills essential for solving complex engineering problems. Part B includes 18 credit points of Breadth studies, allowing students to explore disciplines outside their engineering specialisation and broaden their understanding of social, environmental, business, or technological contexts. Parts C, D, and E together comprise 144 credit points of Specialist studies, forming the major component of the degree. These units focus on advanced mechanical engineering topics such as thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, machine design, manufacturing systems, control engineering, robotics, energy systems, materials engineering, and automation. Students gain practical experience through laboratory work, computer simulations, engineering design projects, and industry-relevant problem-solving activities. The program progressively develops technical expertise alongside professional skills including teamwork, project management, communication, and research capabilities. Upon completion of all 192 credit points, graduates are prepared for careers in industries such as aerospace, automotive, manufacturing, mining, robotics, renewable energy, transportation, and advanced technology sectors. The degree equips students with the knowledge and practical skills required to design, develop, and improve mechanical systems that contribute to innovation, efficiency, and sustainable technological advancement.
