COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Honours) requires the completion of 192 credit points, structured to build a strong foundation in engineering principles, broad interdisciplinary understanding, and advanced civil engineering expertise. Part A consists of 30 credit points of Engineering fundamentals and design studies, where students are introduced to core concepts such as mathematics, physics, engineering mechanics, materials, and design thinking. These foundational units develop essential analytical and problem-solving skills required for all areas of civil engineering practice. Part B includes 18 credit points of Breadth studies, allowing students to explore subjects outside their core engineering discipline, helping them develop complementary skills such as communication, critical thinking, and interdisciplinary awareness. Parts C, D, and E together comprise 144 credit points of Specialist studies, which form the core of the degree and focus on advanced civil engineering knowledge and application. These units cover key areas such as structural engineering, geomechanics, transport systems, water engineering, construction management, and infrastructure design. Students also undertake laboratory work, simulations, and industry-focused design projects that apply theory to real-world infrastructure challenges. This structured progression ensures students develop both technical depth and practical experience. Throughout the course, students build professional skills including teamwork, project management, research, and technical communication. Upon completion of all 192 credit points, graduates are prepared for careers in infrastructure development, construction, consulting, government projects, transport planning, and environmental and resource engineering sectors.
