COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Chemical Engineering (Honours) requires the completion of 192 credit points, structured to develop strong foundational engineering knowledge, interdisciplinary understanding, and advanced specialist expertise in chemical processes. Part A consists of 30 credit points of Engineering fundamentals and design studies, which introduce core principles such as chemistry, physics, mathematics, engineering design, and systems thinking. These units build the essential problem-solving and analytical skills required for chemical engineering practice. Part B includes 18 credit points of Breadth studies, allowing students to explore complementary disciplines outside engineering, helping to develop communication, critical thinking, and interdisciplinary awareness. Parts C, D, and E together comprise 144 credit points of Specialist studies, which form the main focus of the degree. These units cover advanced chemical engineering topics such as thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, reaction engineering, process design, materials science, separation processes, energy systems, and environmental engineering. Students also undertake laboratory work, simulations, and industry-based design projects that apply theoretical knowledge to real-world chemical and industrial challenges. This structured progression ensures students develop both depth and breadth of knowledge while preparing for complex engineering environments. Throughout the course, students build professional skills including teamwork, research, technical communication, and project management. Upon completion of all 192 credit points, graduates are prepared for careers in chemical process industries, energy and environmental sectors, pharmaceuticals, materials manufacturing, and research and development.
