COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Education (Honours) in Secondary Health and Physical Education requires the completion of 204 credit points, structured to ensure students develop strong educational foundations, specialist subject expertise, and extensive professional teaching experience. Part A consists of 42 credit points of Core studies, which provide essential grounding in education theory, adolescent development, learning psychology, and the social, cultural, and ethical contexts of teaching. Part B includes 12 credit points of Education studies, focusing on core pedagogical principles, teaching strategies, classroom management, and professional practice skills required for effective secondary teaching. Part C comprises 66 credit points of Curriculum studies, where students develop the ability to design, deliver, and assess learning programs across secondary education frameworks, with a focus on health and physical education as well as broader curriculum areas. Part D includes 84 credit points of Discipline studies, providing in-depth knowledge in health and physical education, including sport science, biomechanics, movement skill development, health promotion, and coaching principles, alongside a possible third teaching area depending on course structure. Part E consists of Professional experience, involving at least 80 days of supervised teaching placements in secondary schools. These placements allow students to apply theoretical knowledge in real classroom environments, develop confidence in lesson delivery, and refine their ability to engage and support adolescent learners. Throughout the program, students build key transferable skills including communication, leadership, critical thinking, organisation, and adaptability. Upon completion of all 204 credit points, graduates are eligible for teacher registration and prepared for professional careers in secondary education settings.
