COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Education (Honours) at Monash University is structured around five interwoven themes: Core studies, Education studies, Curriculum studies, Discipline studies, and Professional experience, with the proportion of units varying by specialisation. Core studies develop evidence-based teaching practices, classroom management skills, inclusivity, and cultural responsiveness, including foundational knowledge of First Nations cultures. Education studies focus on learning-to-teach principles tailored to early childhood, primary, or secondary education, exploring learner development, classroom culture, and engagement with families and communities. Curriculum studies cover content-specific knowledge and pedagogies aligned with the Victorian Curriculum, including planning and implementing engaging learning experiences across relevant subjects and year levels. Discipline studies deepen specialist content knowledge in key learning areas, structured according to the requirements of each educational sector. Professional experience is embedded throughout the course, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge in real classroom settings, interact with educational professionals, and complete the Teaching Performance Assessment (TPA). This integrated approach ensures graduates are prepared to be adaptable, culturally aware, and highly skilled educators. The program requires completion of 204 credit points.
