COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Health Sciences is a four-year double degree program at Monash University comprising a total of 192 credit points, with 96 credit points allocated to the Arts component and 96 credit points allocated to the Health Sciences component. The Arts component allows students to choose from more than 30 areas of study, including psychology, sociology, communications, languages, philosophy, bioethics, and related humanities disciplines. Through these subjects, students develop strong skills in critical thinking, communication, cultural awareness, empathy, and analytical reasoning, enabling them to understand human behaviour, society, and global issues in depth. The Health Sciences component is structured around three key themes: personal and professional development, population and community health, and the scientific basis of healthcare practice. Students gain knowledge of physiological, behavioural, developmental, social, and environmental factors that influence health and wellbeing, while learning to apply scientific and evidence-based approaches to address health challenges. The program encourages interdisciplinary learning by integrating humanities and health sciences perspectives, allowing students to better understand the relationship between society and health outcomes. Throughout the degree, students build practical, research, and communication skills through applied learning experiences. By combining Arts and Health Sciences, graduates are equipped for diverse careers in public health, health promotion, policy development, community services, mental health support, education, health communication, bioethics, and other fields focused on improving individual and community wellbeing.
