COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Fine Art is a four-year double degree program at Monash University comprising a total of 192 credit points, with 96 credit points in the Arts component and 96 credit points in the Fine Art specialisation. The Arts component provides students with the opportunity to study across more than 40 majors and minors, including areas such as languages, sociology, politics, communications, international relations, human rights, and social studies. This allows students to develop a broad and critical understanding of global issues, human behaviour, culture, and society while building strong research, analytical, and communication skills. The Fine Art component focuses on studio-based learning and creative practice, enabling students to explore a wide range of artistic disciplines such as painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, printmaking, installation, video art, jewellery, glass, and digital modelling for artists. Students are encouraged to experiment with different media and develop a personal artistic practice while engaging with contemporary art theory and criticism. The structure of the program promotes interdisciplinary thinking by combining academic study with creative exploration, allowing students to connect cultural understanding with artistic expression. Through this integrated approach, graduates develop both intellectual depth and practical creative skills, preparing them for careers in the arts, cultural institutions, galleries, education, media, and broader creative industries, both in Australia and internationally.
