COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts at Monash University is structured around three key components—Part A: Arts listed major, Part B: Arts specified study, and Part C: Free elective study—offering students a balanced blend of depth, breadth, and flexibility in their academic journey.Part A focuses on the completion of a major in one of the many Faculty of Arts disciplines. This component provides a structured and in-depth study pathway, where students develop both theoretical and practical expertise. Through this major, students gain advanced skills in critical analysis, research, and communication, as well as a deep understanding of key concepts and theoretical frameworks in their chosen field. This specialised knowledge helps build a strong foundation for either professional work or further study.Part B encourages exploration across the arts, humanities, and social sciences. It allows students to sample different disciplines, giving them the opportunity to discover new interests and broaden their academic perspective before committing to a major. This part of the degree also includes units from the Professional Futures domains, which are designed to build essential workplace skills, such as collaboration, problem-solving, communication, and digital literacy—capabilities highly valued by employers across industries.Part C provides the greatest flexibility, allowing students to tailor the degree to match their personal goals and interests. Students can deepen their knowledge in their major, undertake a second major or minor, or explore subjects outside the Faculty of Arts. This part of the program supports interdisciplinary learning and offers practical options like internships, which enable students to apply their academic knowledge in real-world settings. Internships not only enhance employability but also provide valuable insight into potential career pathways. Together, these three components create a well-rounded degree that prepares graduates for a wide range of professional and academic opportunities.
