ABOUT UNIVERSITY

Monash University, established in 1958 in Melbourne, Victoria, is Australia’s second-oldest university in the state and is named after World War I General Sir John Monash. It has grown into a major public research institution with campuses in Clayton, Caulfield, Peninsula, Parkville, Malaysia, and Indonesia, along with research centers in Prato, Mumbai, Suzhou, and more. Known for its strong emphasis on research and innovation, Monash hosts major facilities including the Australian Synchrotron and the Monash Science Technology Research and Innovation Precinct. In the 1970s and 1980s, it became a pioneer in IVF technology and student activism. During the 1990s, the university expanded rapidly through mergers and overseas campuses, becoming the largest and most internationalized university in Australia. It has a diverse student body with over 30% international students. Monash is part of the Group of Eight and has formed global alliances, including with the University of Warwick. The university has continued to expand globally, recently opening a graduate campus in Indonesia. Monash remains a leader in biomedical research and has consistently ranked among the world’s top institutions.
