COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Teaching (Secondary) is a comprehensive program designed to prepare future educators with the knowledge, skills, and professional experience required to teach in secondary school settings. The degree consists of a 160-credit-point Core Zone that forms the foundation of professional teaching practice and educational understanding. Within this structure, students complete essential units such as Conceptualising Professional Practice and Educational Research, Reimagining Indigenous Education: Strategies and Research, Conceptualising Curriculum and Pedagogy, Enrichment, Thinking and Creativity in Curriculum, Designing Technology Enhanced Learning in Schools, and Understanding the Brain, Learning and Development. The program also includes multiple Professional Practice units, providing extensive classroom-based experience, including placements focused on diverse learning needs, literacy for culturally and linguistically diverse learners, and a final extended teaching practicum. These experiences ensure students can confidently apply theoretical knowledge in real school environments. The degree further allows specialisation through elective units across teaching areas such as Humanities and Social Sciences (HSIE), STEM, and the Arts, for both junior (Years 7–10) and senior (Years 11–12) secondary levels. Additional options such as Scholarship in Educational Studies and Bilingual Education provide further academic depth and professional flexibility. Overall, the program equips graduates with strong pedagogical skills, subject expertise, and practical classroom experience, preparing them for successful careers as secondary school teachers and education professionals.
