COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Teaching (Primary) curriculum is designed to develop highly skilled, research-informed educators through a comprehensive program of core studies, professional practice, and specialized learning. The Core Zone (160 credit points) provides extensive preparation in evidence-based teaching, educational research, and professional practice, covering essential areas such as primary mathematics, English literacy, science and technology, the arts, health and physical education, and Human Society and Its Environment (HSIE). Students also explore child development, neuroscience, diverse learning needs, and strategies for creating inclusive classrooms that support students from a wide range of backgrounds and abilities. The curriculum emphasizes culturally responsive teaching through dedicated study of Indigenous education and encourages the effective integration of contemporary teaching practices and educational technologies. Practical learning is a central component of the program, with three supervised professional practice placements that progressively build classroom confidence, instructional skills, and professional competence in real school environments. Students are also required to complete the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE) and foundational mathematics requirements to ensure teaching readiness. The elective component allows students to further specialize in primary English, science, technology and mathematics, or mathematics education. Overall, the curriculum combines rigorous academic study with extensive practical experience, preparing graduates to become reflective, adaptable, and effective primary educators capable of supporting diverse learners and improving educational outcomes.
