COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Sustainable Development is a multidisciplinary program designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills required to address complex global challenges such as climate change, environmental degradation, and sustainable economic development. The program begins with a 40-credit-point Foundation Zone that provides essential grounding through elective units such as Climate Change, Energy and our Future; The Living Environment; Australian Environmental Futures; Environment and Society; and Urban Dynamics: Population, Housing and Regeneration. These subjects introduce key environmental, social, and urban systems concepts. The Core Zone, worth 80 credit points, builds advanced expertise through essential units including Advanced Introduction to Policy, Sustainable Cities, Sustainability and Transitions, Engaging Society with Sustainable Development, Environmental and Sustainability Consulting, Environmental Law and Sustainable Development, Sustainability Accounting and Accountability, and Business and Global Environmental Change. These units develop strong analytical and policy-oriented skills for sustainability practice. The Flexible Zone of 40 credit points allows students to tailor their studies through electives such as Sustainable Finance, Climate Change and Adaptation, Environmental Health, Smart Urbanism, Climate Change Law, Environmental Pollution, GIS and Remote Sensing, and Environmental Economics. Overall, the program integrates knowledge from environmental science, law, economics, business, and planning, preparing graduates for careers in sustainability consulting, environmental policy, urban planning, climate action, and green finance roles across public and private sectors.
