COURSE CURRICULUM

The combined Master of Criminology and Master of Laws provides a multidisciplinary postgraduate program that develops advanced expertise in justice, law, and global governance. The Master of Criminology core zone focuses on understanding crime, justice systems, and social responses to crime through a critical and evidence-based lens. Students study global crime and justice, criminology in practice, technology and surveillance in policing, incarceration and punishment, crime, inequality and justice, advanced criminology theory, and crime prevention. These units develop a deep understanding of how crime is shaped by social structures, institutions, and emerging technologies, while also strengthening applied skills in evaluation, policy analysis, and intelligence-based decision-making through electives such as data, evidence and evaluation in criminology. Complementing this, the Master of Laws core zone builds advanced legal knowledge in key areas of international and contemporary law, including public international law, climate change law, environmental law and sustainable development, energy and natural resources law, international human rights law, law of the sea, business and human rights, and anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing law. Together, these programs integrate criminological theory with legal frameworks, enabling graduates to critically analyse global justice issues and legal systems. The combined degree prepares students for careers in law, policy, government, international organisations and justice reform, equipping them with strong analytical, ethical, and professional capabilities to address complex global challenges.
