COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Applied Economics is a comprehensive program designed to develop advanced analytical, quantitative, and policy-oriented skills required to understand and address complex economic issues. The program begins with a 40-credit-point Foundation Zone that builds essential knowledge through core units such as Principles of Finance, Econometrics and Business Statistics, Economics for Professionals, and Work, Organisation and Management. These subjects provide a strong grounding in economic theory, statistical analysis, and organisational understanding. The Core Zone, worth 80 credit points, focuses on applied economic analysis through essential units including Applied Topics in Microeconomics, Applied Topics in Macroeconomics, Policy Analysis and Design Project, and Applied Econometrics. These units equip students with the ability to analyse economic behaviour, evaluate policy outcomes, and apply quantitative methods to real-world problems. Students also complete 40 credit points of electives, choosing from specialised areas such as Health Economics and Policy, Climate Change and Environmental Economics, International Trade, Economic Development, Economics of Public Issues, Business Analytics Techniques, and International Financial Management. A 40-credit-point Flexible Zone allows further customisation of study pathways. Overall, the program prepares graduates for careers in government, policy analysis, international organisations, financial institutions, and research roles by developing strong skills in economic modelling, data interpretation, and evidence-based decision-making in a global economic context.
