COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Social Sciences is a 240 credit point program structured with a 160 credit point core zone and an 80 credit point flexible zone, designed to build strong interdisciplinary understanding of society and social change. The core zone provides foundational training through units such as SSCI1001 Introduction to Social Sciences and SSCI1002 Social Sciences in Action, which introduce key theories, methods and real-world applications of social science. Students then progress to more advanced study including SSCI2001 Problems, Solutions and Uncertainty and SSCI2002 Practising Social Sciences, which develop critical thinking and applied research skills. Higher-level units such as SSCI3001 Evaluating Complexity and SSCI3002 The Arts of Enquiry strengthen analytical and methodological capabilities, while SSCI3003 PACE: Enacting Social Sciences provides practical, work-integrated learning experience. The degree culminates in SSCI3004 Becoming a Change Maker, a capstone unit that integrates learning across the program. Students complete an 80 credit point major in Health, Wellbeing and Society, which examines how health and wellbeing are shaped by cultural, social and historical factors. The flexible zone allows students to tailor their studies further across related disciplines. Overall, the program develops strong research, analytical and communication skills, preparing graduates for careers in policy, community services, research, advocacy and roles addressing social inequality and wellbeing challenges.
